1. Make a List
Don't use your memory to keep track of everything. Make a to-do list, write everything down and check it off as you go along. This is a great way be organized and take control of the projects and tasks at hand.
2. Prioritize your List
Prioritize your to-do list and rate your tasks into groups using the ABCD system. This will keep you focused and let you spend more of your time on the things that are really important to you.
3. Plan your Week Ahead of Time
Make a schedule at the beginning of each week and stick to it! Planning your week and making a schedule takes time to do but will help increase your productivity and balance your important long-term projects with your more urgent tasks. Just take about 15 to 30 minutes each week to plan your week.
4. Take Notes
Buy a small notebook and carry it around with you. You never know when you are going to have a great idea. Carry a small notebook with you wherever you go so that you can take notes of your ideas and thoughts.
5. Learn When to Say No
Don't take on more than you can handle. Lots of people find that they become overloaded with too much work because they agree to everything and take on too much work, when they really should be saying no. Learn when to say no. If you have some work, then don't take on more low priority requests. By learning when to say no, you will free up your time to spend on more important tasks.
6. Continuously Improve Yourself
Put aside some time in your schedule for learning new things and developing your natural talents and abilities. For example, you could take a class, attend a training program or read a book. By improving your knowledge and skills you increase your marketability and this will help boost your career.
7. Use a Time Management System
A time management system helps you keep track of everything that you need to do, organizing and prioritizing your work and developing good solid plans to complete it.
8. Identify Bad Habits
List your bad habits so that you can clearly see where you are losing time and sabotaging your goals. Once you've made your list, work on the bad habits one at a time and slowly eliminate them from your life. Remember that the easiest way to eliminate a bad habit is to replace it with a good habit.
